Body:
In 1971 with President Lamar Muse at the helm, Southwest Airlines takes off on its maiden voyage and begins service between Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. America's most unique airline is born. In 2006 Southwest Airlines is ranked number one in customer satisfaction this year, as they add nonstop flights to Denver and begin service to the Washington-Dulles airport. They also added 26 Boeing 737-700 aircraft to their fleet, enabling them to offer almost 3200 flights a day. And the biggest news of all came this year when the Wright Amendment was finally reformed after 27 years! It will be completely repealed in 2014, allowing them to have nonstop service from Dallas to any airport they serve. In 2007 Southwest Airlines signs a ten-year contract with Galileo to make low fares available to all Galileo-connected travel agencies in North America. They returned to San Francisco International Airport in the Summer and expanded to have an eighth crew base located in Las Vegas. In keeping with customer demands, they kept their open seating policy but adopted a new boarding procedure to make the process quicker. Their gate areas are also undergoing makeovers and they’ve added a new Business Select fare for their most frequent business fliers. Today Southwest Airlines flies over 104 million passengers a year to 64 great cities all across the country, and we do it more than 3,400 times a day. With over 500 aircraft, Southwest has one of the youngest fleets in the nation, with an average age of approximately nine years. Included in the fleet are three flying killer whales, the "Shamu" aircraft; "Lone Star One", painted like the Texas flag, to celebrate Southwest Airlines' 20th Anniversary in a style and manner second to none; "Arizona One", a symbol of the importance of the state of Arizona to Southwest Airlines; "California One", a high-flying tribute to the state of California; "Silver One", their 25th Anniversary plane; "Triple Crown One", dedicated to the Employees of Southwest Airlines for their marvelous achievement of five consecutive annual Triple Crown awards; "Nevada One", a high-flying tribute to the state of Nevada; "New Mexico One", also known as Zia, painted in the bright yellow of the New Mexico flag; "Maryland One", emblazoned with an artist’s rendering of the Maryland flag; and the newest addition, "Slam Dunk One", symbolizing Southwest’s special partnership with the National Basketball Association. The mission of Southwest Airlines is dedication to the highest quality of Customer Service delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride, and Company Spirit. They are committed to provide their Employees a stable work environment with equal opportunity for learning and personal growth. Creativity and innovation are encouraged for improving the effectiveness of Southwest Airlines. Above all, Employees will be provided the same concern, respect, and caring attitude within the organization that they are expected to share externally with every Southwest Customer.
