Villa Campestri

Image - Villa Campestri

Set high in the Mugello hills, this magnificent Renaissance Villa offers picturesque rural views over the upper Sieve valley to the foothills of the Apennines. Campestri is the ideal place for those wishing to avoid the hordes of tourists in Florence, yet located only half an hour from where the Renaissance began.

The oldest part of the Villa dates back to the 13th century, and was the property of the noble Roti Michelozzi family for 700 years, until 1989. It's now the home of Paolo Pasquali who runs it with his daughter Viola in a most agreeable fashion.

he whole estate of 140 hectares (350 acres) is planted with vineyards and olive trees and surrounded by rolling meadows and forests. It's a rare combination of history, tradition and natural beauty as this part of Tuscany remains remarkably unspoiled. This superb countryside is ideal for long walks.

An excellent traditional tuscan cuisine is served in the attractive dining room or on the outside terrace, using only fresh local products from their own farm. Villa Campestri is entirely devoted to olive oil in all its scientific, mythological and culinary aspects.

Villa Campestri has 25 guest rooms characterized by harmonious attention to detail. The villa has kept its ancient charm and history as a result of careful restoration and decoration using vintage and antique furniture. Nineteenth-century light fittings, paintings and prints create an atmosphere which is both welcoming and elegant.

The original layout of the villa has been preserved and the bedrooms are located where they were in the renaissance period: some in the villa itself, and others in the adjoining farmhouse and the old dairyhouse opposite. They offer wonderful views of the surrounding parkland.
