A stunning seaside escape perched atop the cliffs of Cornwall, the Scarlet Hotel features a warm philosophy, a bold architecture, and a breathtaking location. Surrounded by National Trust-protected coastline, the Scarlet both capitalises on and harmonises with its environs, providing eco-friendly luxury and remarkable natural views in an environmentally sustainable manner. The three local sisters who masterminded the project began with a relatively simple concept: build a hotel centred on delicious food, Cornish art, and quirky elements that make guests smile. Though the Scarlet is anything but simple, its cosy and welcoming atmosphere reflects this original philosophy, managing to remain relaxed and elegant at the same time. The Scarlet’s 37 individually designed rooms are intended first and foremost to capitalise on the dramatic views over the cliff. Each features a private outdoor space in the form of balcony, courtyard garden terrace, or rooftop viewing pod. Rooms come in five categories: Just Right, Generous, Spacious, Indulgent, and Unique, the latter consisting of four rooms with their own private gem gardens influenced by some of the great Cornish Gardens.

A restorative hotel spa serves as a quiet, almost spiritual sanctuary for relaxation, full of tented, lantern-lit rooms and cocoon-like hanging pods. The spa includes a sauna, Hammam, meditation room, natural reed-filtered pool, and two log-fired seaweed hot tubs perfect for outdoor stargazing at the cliff’s edge. The Scarlet restaurant is headed by Michelin award-winning local chef Benn Tunnicliffe, whose hearty dishes are surprising without being pretentious. Menus change daily to take full advantage of seasonal local ingredients at their best, and a comprehensive wine list features daily selections to compliment Tunnicliffe’s magnificent creations. A low-key deli menu and Cornish afternoon tea can be served anywhere throughout the premises for an in-between snack.
