Find A Pilot was founded by John Peroyea. A professional pilot since 1995, John launched www.findapilot.com on May 29, 1997 while attending Louisiana Tech's University's Professional Aviation Program. John wanted a place for pilots to easily find aviation employment. While there were a few websites at the time offering aviation employment, none were specifically targeted only to pilots.

After the initial site launch, Find A Pilot became popular as a niche pilot jobs website. In 1998 John was hired with American Eagle as a San Juan based pilot. Due to time constraints, and the lack of high speed internet in Puerto Rico, John handed over the site to his older sister Rebecca (also a professional pilot). In 2005, John acquired the site again and began the process of making the site fully automated.

The automation of the site was a huge success. Job listings increased from just a few each month to an average of 90 listings per month. Find A Pilot now has hundreds of registered employers and 11159 registered pilots.
