Civil Aviation Administration, Macedonia

The need of provision of safe conduct of aviation, gave rise to the founding of the Civil Aviation Sector on 14 December 1992, within the Ministry of Planning, Construction, Traffic and Environment, and soon after that on 5 April 1995, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) was established. In accordnace with the Law on Organization and Operation of the State Administration (Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia No. 70/2001), the Directorate General of Civil Aviation continued its work as an Administration.

The provision of safe conduct of civil aviation is the fundamental responsibility of the DGCA, meaning:
- air traffic control service,
- provision of meteorological safety for aviation,
- investigation of the treats to aviation safety,
- operations related to search and rescue missions,
- inspection oversight of civil aviation,
- issuance of permissions for all kinds of flights and overflightsover the state territory of the Republic of Macedonia,
- coordination in the air space use, construction, maintenance and registration of aircraft, airports and airfields,
- establishment and enhancement of cooperation on international level as well as upgrading,
- research and development of projects related to civil aviation.
The provision of safe conduct of civil aviation is the fundamental responsibility of the Civil Aviation Agency (CAA), meaning:
- Complete ANS services,
- Provision of meteorological safety for aviation,
- Investigation of the treats to aviation safety, operations related to search and rescue missions, inspection oversight of civil aviation, construction, maintenance and registration of aircrafts, airports and airfields,
- Establishment and enhancement of cooperation on international level,
- Upgrading, research and development of projects related to civil aviation.
The Civil Aviation Agency is an authority within the Ministry of Transport and Communications with a capacity of a legal entity. CAA implements directly Laws and other regulations related to air traffic control and civil aviation safety and performs other duties and obligations that have been set within its scope of operation by this or some other law or regulation.
