Zurich Airport

Zurich Airport

Zurich Airport also called Kloten Airport, is located in Kloten, canton of Zurich, Switzerland and managed by Unique Airport. It is Switzerland's largest international flight gateway and hub to Swiss International Air Lines. Skyguide is responsible for all Air Traffic Control for Zurich Intl.

When Switzerland officially implemented the Schengen Agreement on 12 December 2008, the first step was to open the country’s borders for free movement of persons within the Schengen area.

The next step was the full implementation of the Schengen Agreement at Switzerland's airports as of the changeover to the summer flight plan on 29 March 2009.

On 24 October 2008, Unique (Flughafen Zurich AG) already handed over to operation the main components required for Schengen implementation.

Zurich Airport is to undergo further expansion in the next few years. The main purpose behind the "Zurich 2010" project is to implement the provisions of the Schengen Agreement at Zurich Airport in time for the changeover to the summer flight plan on 29 March 2009.

This project also involves other construction work, including alterations to Dock B and its subsequent reopening for flight operations, plus the centralisation of security checks.
