Vnukovo International Airport

Vnukovo International Airport

Vnukovo International Airport is one of the largest air transportation hubs in Russia ranking third in terms of passenger numbers among the nation’s leading aerial gateways. The Airport’s two passenger terminals offer a total capacity of 6800 pax. per hour with about 120 thousand flights by more than two hundred airlines from all over Russia, the CIS, and beyond, handled at the Airport every year.

The airfield itself has two intersecting runways of 3000 m and 3060 m in length. Each runway is 60 meters wide with 10-meter wide safety shoulders on each side. The runways’ joint capacity is 60 aircraft movements per hour. The apron area provides an ample number of stands enabling simultaneous parking of over a hundred aircraft of any type. The types may range from tiny business jets to medium-haul jetliners like the B 737s and 757s, to the cargo super heavylifter AN-124-100 Ruslan.

Vnukovo International is an ICAO Category II airfield, which means the Airport has the requisite capability to continue its flight operations even in limited visibility conditions.

The airfield has a number of comparative advantages in terms of its location and number of fair weather days it enjoys in a year. Among the Airports comprising the so-called Moscow Air Transportation Cluster, Vnukovo also happens to be the one located closest to the Moscow City center, merely 11 kilometers distant from the Moscow Ring Road and with but 27 kilometers separating the airfield from the heart of Moscow, which effectively cuts the commute time between the city and the Аirport.
