In 2000, the runway is increased to 1797m, and the terminal undergoes a considerable rebuilding/renovation. Air Alsie extends their administration.

In 2005, Sønderborg Airport builds 700 m2, with combined course-, office and overnight accommodation facilities.

There is only a 35 minutes flight between Sønderborg Airport and Copenhagen. From Copenhagen Airport you can reach the citycentre within 14 minutes if you take the Metro from Terminal 3. The metro departs every 4 minutes.
