Ohrid St. Paul The Apostle Airport is a small tourist airport, providing apron air-parking space for 8 aircrafts from commercial aviation and 5 aircrafts for general aviation. At the moment, passenger terminal and other airport capacitites service about 60 000 passengers and about 1 000 aircraft movements annually. The basic purpose of this airport is tourism development in the Ohrid tourist area and to serve as an alternative for the Skopje Alexander The Great Airport.
At the Ohrid St. Paul The Apostle Airport the regular traffic is conducted by the domestic airline Macedonian Airlines and 4-5 foreign airlines, operating together to 7-8 European destinations. The technical equipping of the airports satisfies the international standards of servicing aircrafts and passengers. The employees of the public company (airport operator) are very well educated and have all necessary internationally and national issued licenses and certificates.
Airport in Ohrid was build in 1952 with green runway with 1200m length. In year 1970 started to functioning with JAT`s Karavela and Adria`s DC-9 at the new asphalt runway and new terminal.
Beginning and affirmation period of airport in Ohrid started with official performing of first promotion flight in commercial air traffic in the middle of year 1953 and existed till the beginning of 1968, when practical activities related to modernization and reconstruction of the airport started. With promotion of new touristy route Belgrade-Skopje-Ohrid, JAT has included airport Ohrid in it’s own domestic air traffic net of airports in formal Yugoslav community.
In 1990 runway was lengthen, and in 1995 new terminal building with 3000m2 surface was build, at the same place were old terminal building was, so conditions of alternative airport for airport in Skopje were set.
Airport have a good geographical location, so in the same time could handle aircrafts during the whole year, operate together with airport in Skopje and could be a alternative airport for other surrounding airports.
Vision
- In the next decade we aim to increase our tourist traffic and to support tourist development of Ohrid and will become regional hub of air traffic (a leading provider of air-corridor 8 crossroad connection) services in this region, both for passenger traffic and cargo traffic.
Mission
- Through effective leadership of well trained and motivated staff, and efficient and vigorous management of all other resources they will provide flight services and other commercial services that are safe, punctual and of high quality, and attend to the development of the airport in line with passengers demands, the types of traffic and the requirements of the European Union.
