On June 30, 2006, the official reporting date of the most recent workplace survey, the airport was found to have 27,400 employees for the first time ever. This was 4,000 more than in the previous survey in 2003, representing an increase of almost 18 percent. In statistical terms, this means that the airport generates an average of 4 new jobs per day.


The number of companies situated at the airport rose from 531 to 554 over the same period. A further indicator of the enormous economic significance of the airport is the income of its employees. Their wages and salaries totalled nearly 900 million euros. The majority of the generated wealth remains in the immediate airport region. More than 70 percent of all airport employees come from the Munich area and the municipal districts of Erding, Freising and Landshut.

With the result of 34.5 million passengers in 2008, Munich Airport stayed on course with its rise and can look back on a successful year.
