Cochin International Airport

Cochin International Airport, also known as Nedumbassery Airport, is located at Nedumbassery, near Kochi, Kerala in India. It is the busiest airport in Kerala in terms of domestic and international traffic.

The Airport was formally inaugurated by the Hon'ble President of India on 25 May 1999 and the first Inaugural flight of Air India took off on 10 June 1999. The Air India Jumbo Jet Boeing 747 touched down for the first time in Kerala on 21 June 1999. The Domestic Operation from the Naval Airport was shifted to Cochin International Airport on 01 July 1999.
Cochin International Airport (CIAL) is the first Greenfield airport setup in the public private partnership (PPP) model in civil aviation infrastructure sector in India. Cochin International Airport has the state-of-the-art facilities and traditionally designed architecture unique to Kerala, and has been constructed to enable any type of wide-bodied aircraft to land or take off with the least of hassles.
- The Airport is strategically located with easy access to all three National Highways passing through Kerala.
- The main Railway line from Kanyakumari to Delhi is adjacent to the airport and it is situated between Alwaye and Angamaly Railway Stations.
- The Cochin Sea Port, one of the biggest in the country is also situated close by. The Cochin Airport serves as a vital link in International trade, travel and tourism.
- The Airport has been planned in phases on a modular basis to suit future requirements and also to minimize the initial investments so as to generate revenue at the earliest possible time.
Currently, the largest aircrats that fly to Kochi airport are the Boeing 777-200 from Dubai by Emirates airlines, the Airbus A340 or Boeing 767 from Abu Dhabi by Etihad Airways.
Cochin International Airport has direct non-stop international flights to Abu Dhabi, Colombo, Dammam, Doha, Dubai, Kuwait, Muscat, Riyadh, Sharjah, and Singapore. It is also linked with Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Agatti, Thiruvanathapuram, Hyderabad and Bangalore by domestic flights.
