Chisinau Airport is a strategic location, at the junction between the commercial roads of Asia and Europe. Nowadays Chisinau Airport is the main and biggest airport of the Republic of Moldova. The terminal, built in 1970 and upgraded in 2000, has a processing capacity of 1.2 mlm. passengers per year and 425 passengers per hour (according to the data from the year 2007). The Airport has one runway (3590 metres in length and 45 metres in width, with the appointed code 4 C) which is operable 24 hours a day. Its adequate location and excellent transport networking turns the Airport into an ideal start spot for tourist and business trips.


On 19 September 1944 was started the Moldovan independent aviation squadron, which is also considered to be the official date of the Civil Aviation foundation in Moldova.

On 31 May 1995 Chisinau Airport was awarded the status of International Airport.

Nowadays the International Airport Chisinau is the biggest airport in the Republic of Moldova. It is a member of Airports Council International (European region), the “Airport” Association of CIS Civil Aviation and the ALFA ACI (L’association des Aeroports de Langue Francaise Associes a l’Aeroports Council International).

The main priorities of the personnel’s activity consist in providing a high-level flights safety and qualitative services.

In 2006, by means of regular and charter flights operated by 15 airlines, more than 548.3 thousand passengers were transported in 18 countries of Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
