Aeroporti di Roma S.p.A. is the exclusive concessionaire for the operation and development of Rome airport system, consisting of Rome Fiumicino "Leonardo da Vinci" intercontinental airport and Rome Ciampino "Giovan Battista Pastine" airport. ADR shareholders are: Gemina S.p.A. (95.8%), Local Organizations (3%), other shareholders (1.2%). An air traffic reference point for central and southern Italy, Rome airport system has efficiently responded over the years to increased traffic, through the development and upgrade of its infrastructures. In 2008, traffic volume hit more than 40 million passengers in both airports: 210 destinations worldwide can be reached from Rome by a total of 140 airlines operating in both airports.

The history of Rome airports begins in 1916, when Ciampino airport was inaugurated on Via Appia, serving as a military base for airships until 1947.

Ciampino airport remained the capital city airport until 15 January 1961, when Rome Fiumicino international airport "Leonardo da Vinci" was inaugurated.

The airport has been enlarged several times since, with respect to the final design, changing the original structure of the first capital city airport into a constantly evolving work.

On 12 February 1974, all the activities were placed under a single airport operator, Aeroporti di Roma, which became the exclusive concessionaire for the operation and development of Rome airport system.

The privatisation process of Aeroporti di Roma S.p.A. started in July 1997, placing 45% of its share capital on the market through both a private and public offer targeting Italian and foreign institutional investors. The privatisation of Aeroporti di Roma was completed in 2000 with divestment of State-owned shares.

Aeroporti di Roma plays a basic role in the development of the local and domestic economy: by data elaborated by the Centro di Economia Regionale dei Trasporti e del Turismo (CERTeT) we understand that 10% of production and 11% of direct and indirect employment of Lazio Region are due to the first company for the airport management made up of private capital.
