Widerøes Flyveselskap AS was founded the 19th of February 1934 by five enthusiastic friends. One of them was Viggo Widerøe. Back then they were located at Ingierstrand outside Oslo, and in the early years the company was used as taxi, ambulance, school transport services and aerial photo flights.

This year 2009 it's 75 years since Widerøes Flyveselskap was founded. The anniversary will be celebrated throughout 2009 with various events for the public and the employees.
In the 1950's the activity increased substantially. The seaplane routes in Northern Norway along with the garage at Fornebu was driving most of the income. The seaplane activity was replaced by inland routes when the government decided to establish smaller airports in the districts. The first four airports where opened in 1968 between Bodø and Trondheim.
In 1970 Widerøe reorganised, as the company wanted to play a leading role in the development of routes in the districts. The company has continued to develop and Widerøe has been established as one of the most important transporters in the districts in Norway. Today Widerøe has 330 daily departures to 36 domestic and 7 international destinations including our summer schedule and in excess of 2 million passengers annually.
Widerøe is the largest regional airline in Scandinavia, with a staff of 1,300 and a turnover of NOK 2.5 billion. The company is carrying 2 million passengers annually and flies to 37 domestic and 7 international destinations including the summer schedule.
Widerøe has more than 330 take off and landings daily and operates more than twice as many airports in Norway than any other airline.
