Until 1997 scheduled passenger and taxi charter flights were successfully performed but 1996 saw a huge development within the Swedish Post’s logistic system and it took West Air into a new era.

The demand now was for greater capacity on the night-time mail routes. The Hawker Siddley 748 was thought to be suitable for these routes and could be modified with an E-Class cargo compartment. So the first four of these aircraft were modified and added to the fleet. In the following years a number of HS748 were bought, converted and used. In 1999 West Air Sweden began operating the British Aerospace ATP aircraft and has gradually replaced the HS748s with this type of aircraft since then.

West Air Sweden's head office is located in Gothenburg. The functions of management, administration, recruiting and personnel, accounting and sales and marketing are carried out here.

Regional Lidkoping Hovby Airport is home to West Air's Technical and Operations departments. Both routine maintenance and the extensive modification work, for which the company has gained a prestigious reputation, are undertaken here.

The modern and state-of-the-art hangars house several workshops and an expansive parts store. West Air fulfils all it's technical requirements "in-house", from avionics to sheet metal work.

Operational efficiency and technical reliability are key to the successful growth of the business but of paramount importance is safety. Safety has highest priority in all company decision making processes.

Today West Air Sweden is the worlds leading ATP-operator. To facilitate the development of technical expertise, and provide adequate hangar space, a move was forced upon the ever-expanding airline. West Air Sweden relocated in 1997 to the south of the lake. Today West Air Sweden AB, Scandinavia’s largest all cargo airline, has it technical base at LidköpingHovby Airport and the head office in Gothenburg.

The most recent milestone in West Air Sweden’s development is the commencement of mail operations in Norway, which began in October 2006.

From West Air Sweden’s inauguration as a coffee roaster’s private air taxi the company has graduated as a mail specialist, holds a strong position in the schedule cargo market and also provides adhoc charter service to an impressive list of destinations. Today West Air Sweden is operates all throughout Europe; from Svalbard in the north to the Mediterranean in the south.
