Trans States Airlines is the fifth largest independent (privately held) regional airlines in the United States. Founded in 1982 as Resort Air, the company has positioned itself to be a quality regional feeder airline for United Airlines and US Airways.


In 1982 Resort Air is established in Missouri. In 1985 Resort Air enters into an agreement with Trans World Airlines and begins flying as Trans World Express. In 1989 Resort Air Inc. changes it name to Trans States Airlines.

In 2001 American Airlines merges with Trans World Airlines. Trans States Airlines begins operations as AmericanConnection providing feeder service into the St. Louis hub. In 2003 Trans States Airlines reaches a Memorandum of Understanding with United Airlines to operate select portions of the company’s United Express service. The new 10 year relationship calls for Trans States to operate up to 25 50-seat regional jets.

In 2007 the Trans States maintenance operation wins its eighth consecutive Diamond award from the FAA in recognition of excellence in maintenance training. Trans States marks its 25th year of operation.

Since their company began in the early 1980's, their commitment has been simple, to strive to do their best for their customers and to remain flexible and responsive to the needs and challenges of their major partners and the industry. Trans States Airlines flies to 46 cities in 25 states with two hubs of operation.

Trans States Airlines has been the recipient of the Federal Aviation Administration's Certificate of Excellence Diamond Award in Maintenance eight years in a row.
