Polynesian Airlines

Polynesian Airlines was founded in 1959 by Captain Sir Reginald Barnewall, an Australian airline captain who had previously managed an airline called Southern Airlines in Melbourne and Samoan businessman Eugene Paul. With a rich and colorful past, the airline is one of the best known in the South Pacific region. Polynesian Airlines previously operated jet flights linking Apia with Auckland, Wellington, Sydney, Melbourne, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Nadi, Rarotonga, Papeete, Tongatapu, Niue and Pago Pago.

With the establishment of Polynesian Blue, a joint venture airline between the Government of Samoa and Australia’s low-cost airline, Virgin Blue in October 2005, Polynesian Airlines’ operation was downscaled. Today, the airline’s main focus includes its short haul operations from its hub, Apia to Pago Pago in American Samoa and on-demand charter services to Maota and Asau domestic airstrips on the big island of Savaii and other neighboring island countries such as Tonga and Niue. Other key components of the airline’s business include the provision of ground handling services for all the major international airlines and non-commercial operators flying into Faleolo International Airport and general sales agency services for Polynesian Blue and Air Pacific in Samoa and American Samoa and Pacific Blue New Zealand in Tonga.
Managed and staffed by a local team with extensive airline business and operational experience, the airline which is still hundred percent owned by the Government of Samoa, continues its tradition of offering travelers an easy and enjoyable experience on its scheduled and chartered services.
