Founded in 1944, Mesaba Airlines is the longest-flying regional airline in the United States. Known throughout the industry for its commitment to the safety of both passengers and employees, the airline has successfully navigated through evolving times in an exciting industry.

In 1983, Mesaba begins first codeshare agreement with Republic Airlines,flying turboprop aircraft from small regional communities to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

In 1988, Mesaba begins feeder service from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport to small airports across the East and Midwest using Fokker F27 and Fairchild Metro aircraft. Maintenance bases are established both in Detroit and Wausau, Wisconsin.

In January 2007, - Mesaba Airlines announces that it has started the Federal Aviation Administration process to begin operating 36 Bombardier Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ) 900s for Northwest Airlines. The first aircraft is to be delivered in May 2007, while approximately two aircraft per month are expected to be delivered through December 2008 when the 36th aircraft will arrive.

As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, Mesaba operates as a Delta Connection carrier under service agreements with both Delta and Northwest Airlines.

The rapidly-expanding airline serves more than 75 cities in the United States and Canada from Northwest’s three major hubs: Detroit, Minneapolis/St. Paul and Memphis as well as Delta’s hubs in Atlanta and Salt Lake City.

Mesaba operates an advanced fleet of regional jet and jet-prop aircraft, consisting of the 34-passenger Saab SF340, the 50-passenger Bombardier CRJ200 and the 76-passenger Bombardier CRJ900 regional jet aircraft.
