Iberia Airlines

Iberia was founded on June 28, 1927 by Horacio Echeberrieta. It was not only Spain’s first airline, but also the first to fly between Europe and South America (as of 1946), the first to establish a walk-on air shuttle service (between Madrid and Barcelona), and the first in Europe to offer an international frequent flyers customer loyalty programme (Iberia Plus).

Iberia is Spain’s largest air transport group and the fourth-largest in Europe. It is also the leading airline on routes between Europe and Latin America, with the most flights and destinations.
Iberia’s business, conducted without interruption for more than 80 years, is focused on three main activities:
- Transport of passengers and cargo
- Aircraft maintenance
- Handling services in airports
Iberia is a private company and is listed in the selective Ibex 35 index of the Spanish stock market. It has posted a profit in each of the past 13 years, and is the only European airline to do so.
In addition, the company is distinguished by its service to society. It is one of only three airlines to be included in the worldwide Dow Jones Stoxx index, which recognises companies with the best economic, social, and environmental practices.
Iberia is also a founding member of oneworld, the alliance of airlines around the globe, which together serves some 700 destinations, and offers the best connections.
Today Iberia is an international transport group operating in around 100 airports. It is a member of one of the most important airline alliances, oneworld, and is renowned for its corporate social responsibility.
